The Langtoun Jazz Proms weekend opens with a very special concert pairing two stars of different generations of Scottish jazz. BBC Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician winner Edinburgh pianist Ben Shankland joins forces with Scottish Jazz Award-winning Fife violinist, vocalist and arranger Seonaid Aitken to present a celebration of George and Ira Gershwin’s music. Featuring the symphonic masterpiece ‘Rhapsody in Blue’, performed with a 9-piece string orchestra, these cross-genre musicians continue their meeting of Jazz and Classical styles with selections from Gershwin’s iconic opera ‘Porgy & Bess’ marking 100 years since the original inspiration behind the work – DuBose Heyward’s novel ‘Porgy’ – was published. The concert will be completed with classics such as ‘The Man I Love’, ‘Someone To Watch Over Me’, ‘Embraceable You’ and ‘Lady Be Good’ amongst other favourites showcasing Aitken’s cinematic string arrangements and Shankland’s piano mastery.
Tickets are £19 plus booking fee in advance from TryBooking.com, or £20 on the night card or cash.
Doors open 7.30pm for 8.00pm performance.
