Brazilian bassist/guitarist Mario Caribe brought his Boteco Trio, featuring Brian Molley on woodwinds and Stu Brown on drums/percussion, to the Old Kirk to warm an Autumn evening with the sounds of Brazil. Featuring of course “The Girl from Ipanema” (sung in Portugese) and Jobim’s “Wave”, the concert also covered a range of Brazilian styles from Bossa Nova and Samba to more regional styles, including the “Xote”. Pronounce the X as a “Sh” sound and you may get a clue! This is a style from NE Brazil blending Brazilian music with the Schottishe or Scottish Polka into an infectious lilting rhythm with a hint of Reggae!
