We are delighted to present a concert with Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra, an orchestra that is unique in Scotland.
FYJO was founded in 1976 by award winning musician and composer, Richard Michael OBE.  Over the years Richard has introduced hundreds of youngsters between the ages of 8 – 24 to the particular musical freedom that jazz with its emphasis on improvisation offers.
Many players who started off in FYJO have gone on to study at Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow and are now making a living as professional musicians and winning awards too including musicians appearing at the festival  – Fergus McCreadie, pianist with Matt Carmichael’s Quintet, Mercury Prize winner, Scottish Jazz Awards winner and a BBC Young Jazz Musician finalist and Ewan Hastie, bass player with Ben Shankland Trio and winner of BBC Young Jazz Musician 2022.  Ewan will be doing a workshop with FYJO players before the concert and may also join the band for a couple of tunes.
Come along and see if you can spot the stars of the future.
