Saxophonist, clarinetist and composer Brian Molley was last in Kirkcaldy in November 2021 with Mario Caribe’s Boteco Trio. Now he brings his quartet of Tom Gibbs (piano), Brodie Jarvie (bass) and Stu Brown (drums) to the Old Kirk. The quartet has recorded 3 critically acclaimed albums: Clock in 2013, Colour and Movement in 2017 and Modern Traditions in 2021, the last nominated in the Best Album Category at this year’s Scottish Jazz Awards.
With a saxophone style that can both reflect the cool school’s measured concision and blaze with bluesy passion, Molley has continued to gather admirers through a series of albums, tours and international collaborations. Successful club dates in Harlem and Greenwich Village and festival appearances as far afield as Rochester (New York) and Madras have led most recently to the album Intercontinental, with Indian percussion master Krishna Kishor joining Molley’s quartet in a sizzling alliance.
